French-Georgian University: the University of Rennes visits Tbilisi in Georgia

From 27 February to 3 March 2023, a delegation from the University of Rennes visited Tbilisi, Georgia, to discuss a future cooperation strategy and the development of joint, bilateral and double degree programmes within the French-Georgian university cooperation.

Composed of Muriel Hissler, Vice President of International Relations, Yolaine Bompays, Deputy Director of the International Affairs and Relations Department and Blandine Valais, in charge of international projects - including the management of the consortium project with Georgia, this delegation had three objectives:

  • Organising and leading the annual meeting of the Georgian-French University (UFG), in the presence of the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science and representatives of the French Institute in Georgia,
  • Organising and leading the kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project for mobility outside Europe around a French-Georgian consortium made up of the UFG but also other partners,
  • Visiting several Georgian universities with which the University of Rennes wishes to strengthen cooperation.

The annual meeting of the UFG made it possible to know the position of the Georgian Ministry of Education, which still supports the UFG framework for the implementation of French-Georgian double-diplomas, always with a view to the professionalization of Georgian students.

As part of the UFG, 4 double degrees are currently being developed, including the professional degree in dairy products offered by the IUT of Saint-Brieuc, in conjunction with the Georgian Technical University. In addition, a new Georgian partner, the Caucasus University, is being considered to join the UFG. The kick-off meeting for the Erasmus+ mobility project outside Europe, a European Commission programme, also took place at the Georgian Ministry of Education and Science in Tbilisi on Tuesday 27 February 2023.
