David Alis elected President of the University of Rennes

The Board of Directors of the University of Rennes elected the President of the University on Tuesday 2 May. Elected in the first round by an absolute majority of members, David Alis is the first President of the University of Rennes, an institution created on 1 January 2023 as a result of the merger between the Université de Rennes 1 and its affiliated grandes écoles.

Meeting on Tuesday 2 May 2023 at 10:30 am in the boardroom, the administrators of the University of Rennes were called upon to elect the president of the university for a first four-year term (2023-2027).

Two candidates were nominated:

  • David Alis, Professor of Management Sciences
  • Murielle Rabiller-Baudry, Professor of Chemistry

David Alis received 31 votes, Muriel Rabiller-Baudry 3 votes and 9 board members abstained.
The president-elect led the "Ensemble pour l'Université de Rennes" list, which had obtained the majority of seats (11 out of 16) in the college composed of representatives of professors and lecturers during the elections held last month.

This month of May will be devoted to the establishment of the councils and the election of the statutory vice-presidents of the Administrative Council, the Research Commission and the Training and Student Life Commission of the Academic Council. The President will appoint his team and propose the list of functional and delegated Vice-Presidents responsible for coordinating specific activities for deliberation by the Board of Directors on Thursday 25 May 2023.
