Coming to study as part of an exchange programme

The University of Rennes has a number of exchange agreements to enable students to spend part of their course in Brittany, in the form of an exchange programme.

How the exchange works

The student remains registered at his/her home university and pays the registration fees there. He/she is exempt from paying registration fees at the University of Rennes. The selection is made in the student's home institution. A good command of French is recommended as the courses offered by the University of Rennes are essentially in this language.

A study contract is signed between the student, his/her home university and the host university. At the end of the exchange year, the student will validate, if he or she has obtained the corresponding ECTS credits, the degree in which he or she is registered at his or her home university. He/she will not obtain the diploma of the University of Rennes.

The University of Rennes has set up a welcome policy for students coming on exchange or on specific programmes. This consists of a personalised welcome on arrival (at the station, airport, etc.), the reservation of a university room, the possibility of taking 44 hours of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) free of charge and of participating in various welcome days or evenings.

In Europe

It is also possible to join the University of Rennes as part of a European Union (EU) programme. Erasmus+ in particular, aims to promote the EU as a centre of excellence in learning. The programme promotes mobility for students, but also for institutional staff and teachers.

The University of Rennes has signed more than 200 bilateral agreements with European universities in order to allow the mobility of European students.

In the world

The University of Rennes is a member of the Bureau de coopération interuniversitaire (BCI), which includes 11 Quebec universities.

Each year, the university sets up international cooperation agreements with non-European partners. One of the objectives is to allow student mobility, on a reciprocal basis. For a list of these agreements: dariatlistes [dot] univ-rennes1 [dot] fr

An application can also be studied if it is presented by an International Relations Department or a teacher-researcher from a partner institution.
